Welcome to Peterborough’s biggest golf store, located in Yaxley near some of Peterborough’s finest courses, such as Peterborough Milton Golf Club or Elton Furze Golf Club. We offer everything a golfer could need with the biggest names in golf clubs, clothing, shoes and accessories.

However, what we have fast become renowned for is our custom fit to build service. A unique service that see’s the entire process of your new golf clubs completed in store.

THE STORE

Located in the Eagle Business Park in Yaxley, our 1200 sqf store is fully equipped with a large clothing area with some of golfs leading brands including, J.Lindeberg, Nike, Under Armour, Adidas, Ping, FootJoy, Skechers, RLX and Ralph Lauren.

We also have fully stocked club stands from the major 6 brands on tour including, Titleist, Taylormade, Callaway, Ping, Cobra and Mizuno. Most Importantly though, we have a superb team of club fitters, coaches and builders who are on hand to give you a great golfing experience. 

From helping you find the perfect item of clothing for the course or a lesson to get your game in shape, our team are ready to help you.

CUSTOM FITTING

One of the areas we’ve become most recognised in Peterborough for is our custom fitting experience. 

A FREE 60 or 90 minute session that allows us to understand your specification, recommend and customise new clubs to your game. The process includes hitting golf balls into an indoor swing studio simulator, operated with a Trackman radar. Once hit, the radar will immediately show data surrounding the balls performance and certain club characteristics.

With this data our expert fitting team can understand what actions to take to customise new clubs to suit your game. This can include the head model of which each brand offer 3-4 models, all offering different factors such as forgiveness and stability. It could also include changing the shaft, of which we have hundreds to enable us to find the right specifications for you. We will also adjust the lie and length of a club to encourage better turf interaction and improved results. 

To ensure each and every customer is recommended clubs that best suit them, we offer over 10,000 head, shaft and grip combinations! Fortunately our team can narrow this down quickly!

As well as the brands of head we have a fantastic range of shafts from stock options to premium, inlcuding LA Golf, Graphite Design, Fujikura and many more.

IF YOU BUY WRONG, YOU’LL BUY TWICE!

Most golfers find it too easy to buy clubs straight off the shelf, however, all clubs off the shelf are standard specifications, and we are well aware no two golfers are the same. Customised clubs are going to give you performance gains, in fact, in 2022 our Trackman data shows a collective average of 21 yards gained with a custom fitted driver over their old clubs in our Peterborough studio.

So, we don’t want to charge and restrict any golfer from finding out their true specifications.

THE BUILD CENTRE

Something we are incredibly proud of at AFGolfStore is our build centre. Located at our Peterborough store, our build service gives you the option to have your clubs built by us.

Although this service is about quality and care as well as peace of mind by ensuring the clubs you order are the exact same as the spec you were fitted for in our studio, we love giving our customers the option to guarantee their new clubs are delivered on time. 

Our builders are in constant communication with your fitter to ensure everything meets your expectations. We want to give you an experience unlike anything you’ve had before, that’s why our builders are trained and tested by the lead manufacturers to ensure our build tolerance is to standard.

HOW IT WORKS 

Once you’ve had a custom fitting, you will be given the option (should you choose to purchase) to have your clubs built in store. Our build team will:

  • Hand pick your club components
  • Prepare the shafts and cut to size
  • Ensure the swing weights are precise
  • Apply your chosen ferrules
  • Glue the heads to the shafts
  • Apply your chosen grips with the right amount of tape layers
  • Loft & Lie adjustments are carried out
  • Ferrules are buffed down to a smooth edge
  • Shaft labels are applied
  • Clubs are cleaned to shine
  • We finally box your clubs carefully, ready for delivery

Most importantly you will be kept up to speed with your clubs development.

We also offer this service to customers not requiring a custom fitting , who are aware of the clubs they need. Our RetroFit service also allows you to have your current set re-fitted with any adjustments being made in the build centre, including new shafts, paint upgrades and more.

Should A Beginner Golfer Get Custom Fit Clubs?

A sport with so many variables and so many skills to learn, golf is a challenge for anyone looking to get into the sport. However, can we make the game easier with the right equipment? Should a beginner golfer get custom fit for clubs?

One thing we all recommend for a beginner when getting into golf is golf lessons to ensure the right technique is being taught and that the golfer has a clear understanding of how to make improvements. Usually when starting, it is common for a golfer to borrow equipment, get second hand clubs or buy a start set. After all, golf equipment isn’t the cheapest and is certainly looked at as an investment for a period of time. However, no two people are the same, from different heights, sizes and natural strength and therefore clubs are best performing when tailored to the individuals needs.

If you are a beginner golfer, above average height and having lessons with standard golf clubs you will typically find that making improvements to your game is difficult as you are having to adapt around the wrong equipment. Strike location will be effected and therefore the distance and direction of your shot will be inconsistent and no where near what you desire.

A recommendation would be to have lessons with a coach who has access to a fitting kit, so you can learn with an iron that is suited to your static measurements. Learning will become so much easier. From here if you know you are invested in the sport and are going to pursue we would recommend a FREE club fitting session to get you in the right equipment. This will make long term improvements easier and allow your practice to be effective knowing you have the right equipment to help you improve the game.

What Is Involved In A Club Fitting At AFGolfStore Cambridge?

When getting a club fitting at AFGolfStore Cambridge, the first thing to mention is that we need to use your current equipment to find a baseline. If you arrive at the store you will be asked to warm up for a couple of minutes whilst your fitter gets to understand the reasons and desire for new clubs. Knowing where we are starting and what we are trying to improve is a critical part of the custom fit journey as it allows the fitter to test the most appropriate products.

Once we understand your needs and have the data from your current equipment, we will explain what we need to change to get to your new goals. That maybe spin rate, ball speed, launch angle or a few other parameters that we can get using Trackman 4 technology. The unique aspect to our Cambridge store over Peterborough and Milton Keynes is we have an outdoors range, so with the use of Trackman feedback you can also see the entire ball flight, using Srixon golf balls. If you are looking for a putting or wedge fitting we can use our outdoors, short game facilities with Titleist PRO V1 golf balls or a ball to suit your game and style.

You will be then asked to test different heads and shafts all whilst measuring the data. For us the data is key but just as important is the players perception of the iron, wood or driver your testing. Do you like the look of it? Do you like the sound of it? Does it feel good off the club face? If you as a player don’t like one of these three things then the club really shouldn’t be going into your bag. Having trust and love for a new club is so important in building confidence the first time your visit the course.

After the correct shaft and head combo are found the fitter will move on the getting the correct length, lie and grip and then will move on to appropriate gapping and bag set up for you.

Our FREE custom fittings are carried out in our fitting studio with all the leading brands. We offer over 10,000 head, shaft and grip combinations from the Callaway, Mizuno, Ping, Titleist, Cobra and Taylormade. Our team will take you through a simple process.

So, what makes the Toulon range, Odyssey’s most premium putter? Well, let’s start with the face, they use Deep Diamond Groove Mill Pattern. This is deep full face grooves, which are designed to control sound and feel by channeling vibration. The face also features a medium depth double fly cut to enhance forward roll and feel.
