With LA Golf It’s Time To Be More Athletic And Less Mechanical

With the tour players hitting the ball further and further each year, it is clear there is now the right combination between athleticism and equipment.

A new custom shaft is hitting our workshop. LA Golf, which many may be familiar with after joining forces with SIK putters.

Backed by the likes of Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau and Michelle Wie, LA Golf have a simple message: The Status Quo, conventional wisdom has always said to swing smooth and to hit it straight, but we say, Swing Harder.

Image CC: LA Golf

“What I really like about the LA Golf shaft is that when I want to hit one hard, I hit it more consistently in the middle of the face. That is really the biggest reason I changed.”

~ Dustin Johnson

Dustin’s new signature series with LA Golf has propelled him up the rankings in distance and accuracy.

The woods are developed on a constant tapered mandrel, producing a high balance point with a smooth feel. The series is wrapped with a sleek translucent blue coating and is offered in three different weights, allowing for a broad base of players to tap into the feel and performance of DJ’s signature shaft.

“My goal is to create the most repeatable swing possible, and LA Golf makes most consistent shaft I have ever tried.”

~ Bryson DeChambeau

The series features Bryson’s uniquely designed woods and single length irons. Both are produced on LA Golf’s patented 16-sided HD tooling, which has been proven to enhance feel, performance, and durability.

The Series wood shaft focuses on stability and accuracy, resulting in a low launching, low spinning, fairway finder. The new design features more feel in the hands and increased workability for a wide variety of swing types.

Outside of Dustin and Bryson’s signature designs there is also 5 more series shafts including:

L, A, G, P, P-SOHO.

All shafts differ for clubs from woods through to the putter and suit players based on swing swing as well as other factors.

LA Golf shafts are built around stability and consistency allowing the players to be more athletic and hit the ball harder! The best way to find a shaft to match your game, whether it be irons, driver or putter is to speak with our team.

No More Chipping Woes With The PING ChipR

Are you one of the many golfers who find themselves green side with a real chance at par and walk off with bogey or worse?

All because your chip failed to get close enough? Or even because you lack confidence with the wedges and fail to create consistent contact?

Well, it is time to say goodbye to your chipping woes with the introduction of the new PING ChipR.

Fully engineered for golfers who may lack confidence with their traditional wedge and frequently struggle with chip shots. The ChipR combines elements of a putter and a wedge to improve performance around the greens and lower scores without fear of chunking or blading shots.

Unlike traditional chippers, the PING ChipR actually looks like a wedge when looking down at the ball, but with the 70º lie angle it sits very much lie a putter.

Combined with the cambered sole the club can really glide across the surface without fear of the dreaded fat and thin shots.

With 38º of loft, it is perfect for the trusted bump and run shots around the green side.

Bump and Run

Recommended for shots within 40 yards of the green from the rough or fringe, golfers apply a putting-like stroke to achieve distance control and consistency without fear of chunking or blading shots.

Forgiving Design

The investment-cast, 431 stainless steel head is perimeter weighted for forgiveness, offers a composite cavity badge, and its hydropearl chrome finish repels water. Available to be custom fit for length, loft and lie (10 color codes).

Cambered Sole

The cambered sole allows for a smooth transition through the rough and fringe for maximum versatility and consistency. A shallow face height (between putter and wedge), helps ensure reliable contact and performance.

MicroMax Grooves

Precision-milled MicroMax grooves (tighter spacing, more grooves), increase ball contact to maintain spin for consistent trajectories and control on chips of every length. The compact profile inspires confidence.

Z-Z115 Shaft

The PING Z-Z115 Wedge shaft is lightweight (111 g) with a lower balance point to allow for more clubhead feel. The 35-inch standard length is customizable.

Dyla-wedge Grip

The 360 Dyla-wedge Lite grip, which is ¾-inch longer than a traditional grip and features a reduced taper, allows golfers to choke down for more versatility and trajectory control.

What Is The Purpose Of Grind?

As golf continues to evolve, so to does the equipment. With each brand bringing out new models yearly, it begs the question, how much do the clubs change? Well, each year we see upgrades in materials, styles, COG adjustments and so much more.

One area that continues to develop is wedge grinds. An important factor that many amateur golfers overlook when choosing a new wedge, and it could be costing you shots.

“Wedge grind is the manipulation or removal of material from the sole of the club, helping to improve contact with the turf. Grinds allow for more creativity and consistency around the green, letting you play with ball spin, flight, power, and other factors.” ~ Titleist

The blue shaded area in the adjacent image indicates the grind. It’s important to use the right wedge grinds for your swing type and course conditions, so you can be prepared to hit every kind of wedge shot.

Vokey grind view
Image CC: Titleist

As no single club suits every golfer it’s important that manufacturers are offering grinds and bounce options to suit every style.

The way we interact with the turf varies and with the right club in our hands we can all play a shot to suit our game and skill set.

This is why Vokey offer 6 grind options to support golfers in their quest to finding the right wedge.

Finding the right wedge will depend on you as a golfer, factors include:

  • Turf interaction (divot patterns)
  • Bunker confidence
  • Swing length preference
  • Skill set with opening the face and so on…

Below is Titleist’s spec sheet to indicate the criteria for each of their grinds.

Brooke Henderson WITB: The Amundi Evian Champion 2022

A huge congratulations to Brooke Henderson on her second Major win and first at the Evian Championship.

What looked to be a steady run for the win on Saturday with a 5 shot lead at the midway point soon became a battle with plenty of drama on Sunday.

A nervy start on Sunday included a first hole bogey, soon followed by a four putt double bogey on 6. She soon found herself swamped by names such as Nelly Korda, Charlie Hull and Lydia Ko.

Brooke required nerves of steel and a solid mental game headed into the back 9 to find a way back to the top.

Birdies at 14 and 15 drew her level with Sophia Schubert, before holing a 10 footer on 18 for her first Major win since 2016.

An exciting Sunday, full of drama, showcasing a fantastic standard of golf for the women’s game.

An Open Win For The Fujikura Ventus TR Shaft

Fujikura Ventus TR shaft

We know you watched it, who didn’t? The 150th Open was wrapped up in style by Cameron Smith.

A lot of the talk was on his impressive putting stats, but in this blog we are going to focus on the new shaft in his new driver.

Ventus TR

Cam Smith, was one of the Titleist players using the highly anticipated TSR drivers, which we will get to take a closer look at later in the season. However, hitting 60% of fairways with impressive distance with an average of 300 yards it was important he could trust his equipment to put him in contention.

He is now using the latest edition to Fujikura VENTUS shaft range with the TR Blue in 6-X flex. So what does this shaft offer?

Cameron Smith CC: PGATOUR

Born from the continuous quest for improvement and backed by enso®driven analytics and Tour feedback, VENTUS TR builds upon one of the most trusted and best-selling wood shafts in Fujikura history. TR is a new mid launch, low spin profile in the VENTUS line.

With VeloCore Technology providing an incredibly stable platform for performance, the additional integration of a unique Spread Tow carbon fabric works in unison to create advanced overall stability without compromising player feel.

Ongoing enso® analytics show that the shaft undergoes tremendous stress in the mid/handle section during the transition and downswing.  By incorporating an incredibly strong and ultra-lightweight Spread Tow carbon fabric, VENTUS TR is able to increase torsional stiffness in this specific section, helping to even further reduce twist and ovalization during the swing. So Fujikura feel that this shaft is far more stable offering more consistency and in this case it has proved itself to be a Champion shaft.
