Ping S159 Wedge: A New Exciting Product for Golfers

Today, we’re excited to talk about the new Ping S159 wedge. As a golf enthusiast, I was immediately drawn to the clean and sleek design of this product. It comes in two attractive finishes – a chrome finish and a darker black finish, appealing to different preferences. In this blog, we’ll delve into the features and options of the Ping S159 wedge that make it a great choice for golfers of all levels.

Impressive Design and Construction

The Ping S159 wedge features a carbon steel construction, which provides a solid and durable feel. What sets this wedge apart is its unique groove patterns, tailored to different loft angles. For lofts ranging from 52° to 48°, the wider groove pattern allows for firm shots with increased spin. As we move up to the sand wedge lofts and towards the 60° angle, the groove pattern becomes closer together. This design allows for softer swings and enhanced friction, resulting in more spin and stopping power.

Customisation Options

Ping understands the importance of custom fitting, and they have taken it to the next level with the Ping S159 wedge. There are an impressive 25 different loft and bounce grind combinations available, along with two new sole designs – H and B. The wedge we have here is the H design, featuring a crescent shape that allows for easy manipulation and face opening. With 8° of bounce, it’s particularly suited for golfers who have a shallow impact into the golf ball.

The Dot System and Grip

Continuing their emphasis on custom fitting, Ping has incorporated their dot system into the Ping S159 wedge. This feature allows golfers to match the wedge’s lie angle to their iron set for consistent performance. The shaft included with the wedge is the Nippon Zealous 115 G shaft, which is a standard option and provides a solid and reliable feel. The grip on the Ping S159 wedge is unique in its slightly longer length compared to most grips. This design caters to golfers who enjoy playing mid-flighted shots at half speed. The grip features indicators that allow golfers to grip down slightly, making it easier to execute 3/4 shoulder-to-shoulder swings and achieve the desired yardage.

Who is the Ping S159 Wedge For?

The Ping S159 wedge is truly a versatile option that can suit any golfer. Whether you already play with Ping irons or have different brand preferences, this wedge is worth considering. With its wide range of options in terms of bounce, grind, and loft, there is a perfect fit for every golfer’s playing style. Ping has truly raised the bar with this wedge, and its competitive pricing makes it even more appealing.

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, the Ping S159 wedge has quickly gained popularity on tour and in fittings. Its impressive design, customisation options, and competitive pricing make it an excellent choice for golfers looking to enhance their short game. If you’re curious about how the Ping S159 wedge can improve your game, we invite you to visit AF Golf Store and try it out for yourself. TaylorMade Spider Tour Putter: A Review of the Legendary Shape

The TaylorMade Spider Tour putter is back , and it’s making a statement in the golfing world. This legendary shape has been popular among golfers for years, and now TaylorMade has brought it back in four different head models. In this blog, we will take a closer look at the different head shapes, discuss their unique features, and evaluate the performance of the Spider Tour putter range.

The Head Shapes

TaylorMade offers four head shapes in the Spider Tour putter range: Tour, X, V, and Z. Each shape has its own characteristics that cater to different golfers’ preferences and playing styles.

Tour

The Tour is the standard head shape, known for its iconic design that professionals like DJ and Jason Day have used in the past. With the weight placed furthest away from the face, this putter is ideal for players who struggle to find the middle of the face. It offers high Moment of Inertia (MOI), providing forgiveness for off-center hits.

X

The X is the classic model that Rory McIlroy has been instrumental in bringing back. This putter features a weight placement that gives it a feel similar to a blade putter. It offers a bit more pop off the face, making it suitable for players who prefer the feel of a bladed putter. In March 2024, Scottie Scheffler added it to his bag in a bid to enhance the area of his game he believed to be holding his game back from dominating every week, the putting! Since adding in the Tour X he has won in back-to-back events with the Arnold Palmer Invitational, soon followed by the Players Championship where he became the first player to successfully retain his title.

V

The V is one of the new shapes introduced in the Spider Tour range. It has two front-loaded weights, giving it a compact and solid look. This putter delivers a consistent and firm feel off the face, making it a great option for players who value stability and control.

Z

The Z is another new shape in the Spider Tour range, featuring a weight placement at the very front. This design offers a unique feel and a faster ball speed off the face. If you enjoy the feel of a bladed putter but want the benefits of a mallet, the Z might be the perfect choice for you.

On the Putting Green

When you lay down the Spider Tour putters behind the ball, you can immediately notice the progression from the high MOI shape of the Tour to the unique designs of the X, V, and Z. The alignment aids on all the putters, with a bright white back and a black line, help improve your alignment and aid in visualising your putt.

Even if you typically prefer a bladed putter, the front-loaded weight design of the V might surprise you. It has a compact and solid look, and when you hit a putt with it, you’ll feel the firmness off the face. The feel of the putter is crucial, and the Spider Tour putters deliver a satisfying sensation on impact.

Considering the quality and performance of the Spider Tour putters, their price point of £299 is highly competitive. TaylorMade has made these putters accessible to a wider range of golfers, and they are poised to make a significant impact in the market.

The AF Golf Score

The Spider Tour putter range receives an impressive AF Golf score of 44 out of 50. The combination of style, design, feel, affordability, and custom options makes it a top choice for golfers looking to improve their putting game.

Conclusion

TaylorMade has brought back the legendary Spider Tour putter in four different head shapes: Tour, X, V, and Z. Each shape has its own unique features, catering to various player preferences and needs. The Spider Tour putter range offers exceptional performance and value for its price. With its competitive price point, custom options, and top-notch performance, the Spider Tour putter range from TaylorMade is poised to be a leader in the market. Ping G730: A Review of the New Golf Iron for Maximum Distance

Today, we’re excited to dive into another new product release – the Ping G730. This iron is designed to provide maximum distance and height, making it perfect for golfers who want to boost their power and confidence on the course.

In this blog, we’ll take a closer look at the features and performance of the G730, as well as its suitability for different types of golfers.

Design and Technology

The Ping G730 is an impressive piece of golf equipment with its chunky, powerful design. It features a thick top line and a big bottom end, giving it a solid and confident appearance at address. The low center of gravity and strong lofts, such as the 28-degree loft of the 7-iron, contribute to its exceptional distance capabilities. Additionally, the iron incorporates flex faces and other advanced technologies to ensure optimal performance.

Performance on the Course

For golfers with slower swing speeds, the G730 is a game-changer. It effortlessly launches the ball high into the air, resulting in impressive distances. The low center of gravity allows the ball to pop up and carry further, compensating for the strong lofts. This iron is especially suitable for players who prioritise distance and want a club that inspires confidence. With its wide range of shaft options, including lightweight graphite, the G730 caters to a variety of swing speeds and player profiles.

Testing and Feedback

During our testing, we experienced the true power and potential of the G730. It felt hot off the face, but with swing speeds around 90 miles per hour, the iron produced unfavourable results for Alan, but that’s more due to the swing speed and spin! It’s important to note that the spin rates may not provide accurate feedback for higher swing speeds, such as the 95mph we saw. The G730 is specifically designed for golfers with slower swing speeds who desire additional distance and forgiveness.

Pros and Cons

Let’s take a closer look at the key aspects of the Ping G730: Look: The G730 has a chunky design, which may not appeal to everyone. While it may not be the sexiest iron on the market, it does offer great rack appeal and looks impressive in your golf bag. Feel: Like all Ping irons, the G730 feels solid and provides a satisfying impact at ball contact. It offers a sense of confidence and reliability, which is crucial for golfers seeking maximum distance. Custom Options: Ping is known for its extensive range of custom options, and the G730 is no exception. With various shaft options, power specs, and loft adjustments, golfers can tailor this iron to suit their individual needs. Price: The G730 falls into the higher price range, but it delivers performance and quality that can justify its cost. However, golfers should consider their specific requirements and compare it to other options in the market.

Conclusion

In summary, the Ping G730 is an good choice for golfers looking to maximise their distance and confidence. Its powerful design, advanced technology, and impressive performance make it a a worth while try for players with slower swing speeds. While it may not be the right fit for everyone, those seeking higher launches and longer carries should definitely consider giving the G730 a try. Graphite Design Conquest Shaft: Adding Control and Spin to Your Golf Game

Welcome to another blog from AF Golf! Today, we are excited to talk about the Graphite Design Conquest Shaft, also known as CQ. This unique Graphite Design aims to provide golfers with greater control and the ability to add spin to their shots.

Whether you enjoy playing links golf or frequently play in windy conditions, the CQ shaft may be just what you need to conquer the conditions and course!

Understanding the CQ Shaft

The CQ stands for “conquest,” highlighting the shaft’s ability to help you conquer the golf course. Unlike other shaft designs that focus on low spin and low launch, the CQ shaft takes a different approach. With advancements in golf ball design, there is now a need to add more loft and spin to optimise performance.

The Conquest Shaft is engineered with a softer mid and tip section, which allows for increased spin and lift. However, this does not compromise its strength and stability, making it suitable for golfers with stronger swings as well. The CQ has been a game changer for many golfers, particularly those who prefer to keep the ball low but still require additional spin.

Benefits of the CQ Shaft

One of the significant benefits of the CQ shaft from Graphite Design is its versatility. While it is commonly used in drivers, it can also be an excellent choice for lower lofted fairway woods. Golfers who opt for a 15 or 13.5-degree fairway wood can benefit from the added spin provided by the CQ shaft. This increased spin helps with profile control and makes it easier to turn over the ball.

Moreover, the CQ shaft offers stability and control to aggressive golfers who prefer lower launching shots. This combination of control and spin allows golfers to navigate various wind conditions effectively. If you’re someone who seeks a stable yet low launching option, the CQ shaft may be the perfect fit for you.

Construction and Options

The CQ shaft is constructed using TORAYCA® and M40X, which are designed to make the shaft lighter and stronger. The range of weight options available is extensive, ranging from 50 grams to 80 grams. Whether you prefer a lighter or heavier shaft, there is an option for every golfer.

In terms of flexibility, the CQ shaft comes in various stiffness options, including regular, stiff, and extra stiff. It is crucial to try the different options before making a decision. Each golfer has unique preferences and playing styles, so finding the right fit is essential for optimal performance.

Conclusion

The Conquest Shaft, or CQ, offers golfers the ability to take control of their game and add spin where needed. Its unique design, with a softer mid and tip section, allows for increased lift and spin without compromising stability. Whether you’re a links-style golfer or frequently play in windy conditions, the CQ shaft can be a game changer.

We recommend visiting our store to try out the CQ shaft before making a purchase. The unusual profile of the shaft may not be suitable for every golfer, so it’s essential to experience it firsthand. If the CQ shaft is the right fit for you, we guarantee you’ll see a massive difference in your performance on the course.

So whenever you’re ready, come on in and give it a try. We offer various weight and stiffness options to cater to a wide range of golfers. Take your game to the next level with the Conquest Shaft!

The Odyssey AI One Cruiser: A Game-Changing Putter

Today, we are excited to take a closer look at the AI One Cruiser putter recently released by Odyssey.

This innovative putter is designed to provide golfers with improved distance control and accuracy on the greens. In this blog, we will explore the features and benefits of the AI One Cruiser and why it may be the perfect addition to your golf bag.

Understanding the AI One Cruiser

The AI One Cruiser putter is part of Odyssey’s highly popular AI One putter family. What sets the Cruiser apart is its unique counterbalanced design and slightly longer shaft length. Available in three lengths – 38, 42, and 48 inches – the Cruiser is designed to provide golfers with increased stability and control during their putting stroke.

Exceptional Design and Technology

The AI One Cruiser features five different style options from 3 head designs, including the Ai One DW (Double Wide), The Seven which is available in the armlock and broomstick as well as standard and the highly anticipated Jailbird.

Each head is meticulously designed to optimise performance and provide golfers with confidence on the greens.

The heads are slightly heavier than standard putters, thanks to the longer shafts, which enhances stability and consistency. Additionally, the AI One Cruiser incorporates the same cutting-edge technology found in the standard AI One putters.

The AI face technology, coupled with the strategically placed windows on the putter head, allows golfers to see the technology in action. This helps golfers understand the performance benefits and make more informed decisions during their putting stroke.

Improving Distance Control and Accuracy

One of the key advantages of the AI One Cruiser is its ability to improve distance control. Many golfers struggle with gauging the right amount of force needed to make accurate putts. The counterbalance design and longer shaft length of the Cruiser help golfers achieve a smoother and more consistent stroke, resulting in improved distance control.

Moreover, the AI One Cruiser is an excellent choice for golfers who struggle with short putts. The added stability and control provided by the putter’s design allow golfers to confidently tackle those crucial putts that can make or break a round. Whether you opt for the arm lock, cruiser length, or broomstick length, the AI One Cruiser can help you gain better control over your putting stroke.

Finding the Perfect Fit

Odyssey understands that every golfer is unique, and that’s why they offer a wide range of options with the AI One Cruiser. With 3 head options and adjustable weights, golfers can customise their putter to suit their preferences and playing style. The ability to adjust the weights allows golfers to fine-tune the putter’s performance and achieve the desired feel on the greens. When choosing a putter, it’s essential to consider personal preferences and playing style. Some golfers prefer a putter that allows the ball to die into the hole, while others prefer a more aggressive, ramming style.

The shape, feel, and weight of the putter can significantly impact a golfer’s ability to visualise and execute their desired putting stroke. Finding the right fit can boost confidence and ultimately improve performance on the greens.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the AI One Cruiser putter from Odyssey is a game-changer in the world of golf. Its innovative design, advanced technology, and customisable options make it a top choice for golfers looking to improve their putting performance.

Whether you struggle with distance control or short putts, the AI One Cruiser can provide the stability and control you need to sink more putts and lower your scores.

We highly recommend visiting your local golf store and trying out the AI One Cruiser for yourself. Mizuno’s Latest Iron: The Pro 24 Range

In this blog, we will be discussing Mizuno’s latest iron, the Pro 24 range. Mizuno is known for producing high-quality golf equipment, and their new iron range is no exception.

We will explore the different models in the range, their features, and who they are best suited for. Whether you are a professional golfer or a beginner looking to improve your game, the Pro 24 range offers something for everyone.

The Pro 24 Range

The Pro 24 range consists of three models: the 241, 243, and 245. Each model caters to different playing styles and skill levels.

241 Model

The 241 model is a classic blade iron from Mizuno. It features a sleek design that appeals to golfers of all levels. The club is progressive, meaning that the longer clubs have a slightly larger head, while the shorter irons are more compact. This design ensures optimal performance throughout the set. The 241 model also offers increased bounce compared to the previous generation, which helps with turf interaction and maintaining ball speed.

243 Model

The 243 model is a cavity back iron, providing a blend of forgiveness and performance. This model incorporates technology to enhance ball speed on off-centre hits. A micro slot behind the face promotes increased ball speed without compromising the feel of the club.

The 243 model also features a wraparound design on the back edge of the club head, allowing for smoother turf interaction during scoring shots.

245 Model

The 245 model is a hollow body design iron that offers the highest level of forgiveness in the Pro24 range. It features a separate material for the face and back edge, as well as a tungsten weight in the body. The tungsten weight helps promote a higher launch and lower centre of gravity, resulting in increased distance and stopping power.  The 245 model is an excellent option for golfers looking for maximum forgiveness without sacrificing performance.

Suitability and Custom Fit Options

The Pro 24 range is well-suited for a range of golfers, from single-figure handicappers to lowish teens. The ability to blend the different models allows golfers to customise their set according to their specific needs. For example, if a golfer prefers the feel and performance of the 243 model but requires additional help with longer irons, they can easily blend in the 245 model. This versatility has made the Pro 24 range extremely popular among golfers.

Mizuno offers extensive custom fit options for all their irons including the Pro 24 range. They provide various shaft options, including KBS, Nippon, Dynamic Gold, and Project X. The Latest Ping Drivers: G430 Max vs G430 10K Max

A Closer Look at Ping Drivers For 2024

Welcome to another Tech Talk, where we dive into the latest golf equipment. In today’s blog, we’ll be exploring the newest additions= to the Ping driver lineup as well as a current performer – the G430 Max and G430 10K Max. By the end of this blog, you’ll have a clear understanding of the differences between the two.

The Max Head in the G430

Let’s begin with the G430, featuring some of the well-established design elements that Ping has been using for quite some time. One notable feature is the turbulators, which are designed to create the most aerodynamically efficient shape possible as the club moves through the air towards the golf ball.

Additionally, Ping has incorporated forged face technology, resulting in a great feel upon impact. The face is exceptionally thin, allowing for increased ball speed while also enabling weight redistribution towards the back of the head. This redistribution of weight makes the driver more forgiving, a characteristic for which Ping drivers are known.

The Latest Models: Increased Speed and Stability

Ping has always excelled in creating forgiving drivers, but with their latest models, they have taken it a step further. By shifting the weight forward, they have managed to enhance ball speed.

Simultaneously, moving the weight rearward has significantly increased stability throughout the swing. Another notable feature of the G430 is the inclusion of adjustable weights. These weights allow golfers to fine-tune their ball flight by choosing between a neutral, draw, or fade setting. While adjusting the weights won’t magically transform a slicer into a drawer, it can certainly help stabilise the flight or improve alignment if you tend to strike the ball towards the toe.

The 10K Model: A Slightly Different Design

Now let’s shift our focus to the NEW G430 10K Max. The driver known for breaking the 10,000 MOI barrier, giving the most stable forgiving driver in Ping’s arsenal.

At first glance, you may notice that the weight in this model is fixed, unlike the adjustable weights in the G430. However, upon closer inspection or during a test run, you’ll observe that the 10K model has a slightly stretched back head. It resembles a head that has been slightly flattened and deepened. This design choice is aimed at pushing the weight back as much as possible, resulting in increased Moment of Inertia (MOI). Additionally, Ping has added a carbon wrap on the top of the head to save weight in the middle and redistribute it rearward towards the larger weight, further enhancing stability.

Similar Looks, Feel, and Sound

Between the G430 Max and G430 10K Max, the two drivers share many similarities. They have a similar look, feel, and sound.

Ping has made a conscious effort to ensure that the G430 model produces a softer and quieter sound compared to previous generations, which were sometimes perceived as loud in comparison to other products on the market.

Which Driver Will Be Most Popular?

While personal preference plays a significant role in choosing a driver, the G430 Max is expected to be the more popular option. Its slightly smaller profile and adjustable weight feature seem to appeal to a wider range of golfers in terms of both aesthetics and performance. However, this should not discount the G430 10K Max, as it offers excellent forgiveness for off-centre shots. In fittings, it has already proven to be a big hit, with many satisfied customers. Ultimately, the most important thing is to try out the G430 Max models for yourself.

The Importance of Shaft Selection

One crucial aspect of selecting a driver is choosing the right shaft. Ping offers a variety of fantastic shaft options to complement their drivers. These include the standard ALTA CB shaft, popular Tour Shafts, and Mitsubishi, Project X shafts, all equipped with the same adjustment systems. These adjustments allow for customisation in loft, angle, and other settings, helping golfers achieve their desired ball flight and optimise their performance.

Conclusion: Finding the Perfect Fit

We hope this blog has provided you with valuable insights into the differences between the G430 Max and G430 10K Max drivers. While we personally have a preference for the G430 Max due to its slightly smaller shape, it’s essential to note that individual preferences may vary. The best way to determine which driver is ideal for you is to schedule a fitting and try out any of the four models we haven’t explored in this blog. Our team at AF Golf Store Cambridge is here to assist you in finding the perfect driver that matches your needs and enhances your performance on the golf course.
