What Can I Expect From A Fitting?

Our fitting process for irons is typically 60 minutes. Your fitter will get to know you, your swing and your equipment as well as what you like the look of and prefer. 

We will begin by getting data on your current clubs, this will allow us to understand which models will suit you along with shaft flex and setup.

You will try multiple options so there is no bias and you leave knowing you tried all the relevant options. 

Following the fitting, you will have narrowed the search down to the all important clubs along with shaft, specifications to match and the preferred grip. We also have other customisation options that out fitter’s will discuss, but it’s important to know there is no obligation!

Taylormade’s NEW 2023 P7 Series Irons Are Here

With only 3 weeks until Christmas, the idea of new golf club launches are usually put on hold until the New Year. However, this year we’ve been treated early! Introducing the NEW P7 Series irons from Taylormade! 

Including the upgraded P770, P7MB and P7MC. All three irons are now available for a FREE custom fitting before Christmas, with the release to store in January. 

Let’s learn about the new irons below.

Let’s begin with the anticipated P770 iron. The former model was designed to pack more ball speed and forgiveness in a slimmer, more attractive looking iron than the P790. 

This years model has been improved further to increase launch with the longer irons. 

With a switch in centre of gravity placement for long and short irons we will now see the longer irons launch a lot easier.

However, what we have fast become renowned for is our custom fit to build service. A unique service that see’s the entire process of your new golf clubs completed in store.

THE STORE

Located in the Eagle Business Park in Yaxley, our 1200 sqf store is fully equipped with a large clothing area with some of golfs leading brands including, J.Lindeberg, Nike, Under Armour, Adidas, Ping, FootJoy, Skechers, RLX and Ralph Lauren.

We also have fully stocked club stands from the major 6 brands on tour including, Titleist, Taylormade, Callaway, Ping, Cobra and Mizuno. Most Importantly though, we have a superb team of club fitters, coaches and builders who are on hand to give you a great golfing experience. 

From helping you find the perfect item of clothing for the course or a lesson to get your game in shape, our team are ready to help you.

CUSTOM FITTING

One of the areas we’ve become most recognised in Peterborough for is our custom fitting experience. 

A FREE 60 or 90 minute session that allows us to understand your specification, recommend and customise new clubs to your game. The process includes hitting golf balls into an indoor swing studio simulator, operated with a Trackman radar. Once hit, the radar will immediately show data surrounding the balls performance and certain club characteristics.

With this data our expert fitting team can understand what actions to take to customise new clubs to suit your game. This can include the head model of which each brand offer 3-4 models, all offering different factors such as forgiveness and stability. It could also include changing the shaft, of which we have hundreds to enable us to find the right specifications for you. We will also adjust the lie and length of a club to encourage better turf interaction and improved results. 

To ensure each and every customer is recommended clubs that best suit them, we offer over 10,000 head, shaft and grip combinations! Fortunately our team can narrow this down quickly!

As well as the brands of head we have a fantastic range of shafts from stock options to premium, inlcuding LA Golf, Graphite Design, Fujikura and many more.

Peterborough Club Fitting

Where many of our competitors charge for this service, we choose not too for one simple reason! 

IF YOU BUY WRONG, YOU’LL BUY TWICE!

Most golfers find it too easy to buy clubs straight off the shelf, however, all clubs off the shelf are standard specifications, and we are well aware no two golfers are the same. Customised clubs are going to give you performance gains, in fact, in 2022 our Trackman data shows a collective average of 21 yards gained with a custom fitted driver over their old clubs in our Peterborough studio.

So, we don’t want to charge and restrict any golfer from finding out their true specifications.

THE BUILD CENTRE

Something we are incredibly proud of at AFGolfStore is our build centre. Located at our Peterborough store, our build service gives you the option to have your clubs built by us.

Although this service is about quality and care as well as peace of mind by ensuring the clubs you order are the exact same as the spec you were fitted for in our studio, we love giving our customers the option to guarantee their new clubs are delivered on time. 

Our builders are in constant communication with your fitter to ensure everything meets your expectations. We want to give you an experience unlike anything you’ve had before, that’s why our builders are trained and tested by the lead manufacturers to ensure our build tolerance is to standard.

HOW IT WORKS 

Once you’ve had a custom fitting, you will be given the option (should you choose to purchase) to have your clubs built in store. Our build team will:

  • Hand pick your club components
  • Prepare the shafts and cut to size
  • Ensure the swing weights are precise
  • Apply your chosen ferrules
  • Glue the heads to the shafts
  • Apply your chosen grips with the right amount of tape layers
  • Loft & Lie adjustments are carried out
  • Ferrules are buffed down to a smooth edge
  • Shaft labels are applied
  • Clubs are cleaned to shine
  • We finally box your clubs carefully, ready for delivery

Most importantly you will be kept up to speed with your clubs development.

We also offer this service to customers not requiring a custom fitting , who are aware of the clubs they need. Our RetroFit service also allows you to have your current set re-fitted with any adjustments being made in the build centre, including new shafts, paint upgrades and more.

AFGolfStore Support The Tony Hadley Golf Day

On Friday 9th September, AFGolfStore supported the Tony Hadley Golf Day for the second year running. 

A fantastic charity day lead by Tony Hadley for ACTION. A charity who are on a mission to save and change children’s lives through medical research, developing treatments, vaccinations and cures.

Played at Elton Furze Golf Club in Peterborough, the day is located only a short few miles away from our Peterborough store in Yaxley, where we are proud to offer a FREE custom fitting service to many of the players who participated. 

The day attracts players and members from all over the town and surrounding areas. Making up around 40-50 teams of 4-balls with some very exciting themes and competitions taking place.

Each year we are proud to offer a nearest the pin competition as well as a donation of prizes.

Our marketing manager and PGA Professional , Chris Hattersley, offered the beat the pro on hole 5. A short par 3, well guarded by trees, making the player really think about their shot selection!

The day as always is a great success, with many well known faces joining in to add entertainment to the event. This year, names such as former Boxer, John Conteh, actor, Ricky Groves, Former Ski Jumper, Eddie The Eagle and Olympic Bronze medalist Sarah Winckless all added to a great day.

With many more names adding entertainment off the golf course, you can see why this event is so well supported each year with many funds raised. Keep an eye out for next years event.

We’re On The Mark With Our Newest Team Members!

With the Football season over, the summer transfer window is open and at AFGolfStore we have been busy making new signings of our own. Meet our newest team members, Mark James and Mark Sturgess.

Meet Mark James

Mark joins us after spending 5 years with Titleist in their custom clubs department, working with and learning from industry leading experts.

With a passion for improving the games of every golfer whether it be through custom fitting or in the workshop where he can be found adjusting loft and lies or fixing your equipment ready for your next game. However, his true love comes from coaching his customers to make better contact with the ball and find more fairways! 

“There is nothing more rewarding than teaching the golf to inspire and ignite a passion for the game.

I believe the fundamentals are the key to developing our natural golf swing and lowering scores.

Short Game is a real passion of mine and with the aid of Trackman and Sam PuttLab, we can take an in-depth look into transforming your game. “

Meet Mark Sturgess

Joining us from a successful period of his career at The Cambridge Country Club (formally known as Bourn Golf Club), Mark Sturgess comes to AFGolfStore with a wealth of experience spanning over 28 years as a PGA professional. 

With experience as a Cambridgeshire county coach, Mark has worked with and learnt from some of the games greatest coaches. 

“My passion for coaching comes from seeing my pupils improve all areas of their golf game. I believe the route for my pupil’s improvement is a partnership and I enjoy making myself available to being there to help every step of the way.”

Coaching is not the only love from Mark. He believes in ensuring every golfer finds the perfect equipment for their game through custom fitting, as no two people are the same and therefore every fitting will require a new level of attention to details.

Mark is a member of our Cambridge  team and is excited to meeting new faces in the area as well as continuing to support familiar faces.

Welcome to the AFGolf Build Centre, located in Peterborough where we can build clubs and undergo repairs for our customers to help them play golf with their new or repaired equipment  faster. At AFGolf Store, we believe that all customers must take a FREE in-depth custom fit session to identify the correct and most beneficial clubs for them. Our custom fit studios are equipped with over 10,000 head, shaft and grip combinations from all the leading brands from putter through to driver and everything in between!

Our expert fitting team are assisted with the use of tour proven Trackman technology for precise feedback. The brands that we offer a FREE custom fit for are:

Our Peterborough store is home to the AFGolf Build Centre and expert club builders, who offer an Express Build Service. This service allows us to build your new set of custom fitted clubs as quickly as you would like.  The build team includes, Lewis Daff who shares a passion for building clubs from component form. The process always excites him as he gets to see a golf club come to life with the promise of having the clubs ready 5 working days from the fitting process.

Every build is different, from brand and model, to shaft type, grip, length and lie. No two jobs are the same which keeps our builders on their toes! What we can ensure though is the same care goes into every club we build.

The process…

  • FREE Fitting in your local store.
  • If the clubs you choose can be built by us, you will be offered this service.
  • Shafts are prepped to your length.
  • Weights will be applied along with ferrules and then glueing the heads.
  • We will then grip your clubs.
  • The ferrules will be treated and turned down to leave a clean finish.
  • Your clubs will be loft and lied to your specific measurements.
  • We will box your clubs carefully ensuring they are shipped safely.
  • All is left is for you to enjoy your new clubs, designed for you, built by us.

AFGolfStore Proud To Support The MK Dons SET

AFGolfStore have now been in Milton Keynes just over 6 weeks and the team have loved getting to know local golfers and becoming a part of the community. It is important to us to build trust and help local golfers improve their golfing game, after all, golf is our shared passion! So, helping the community in anyway is always a goal of ours and this week we have been proud to support the MK Dons SET.

What Is MK Dons SET?

“MK Dons Sport and Education Trust (SET) is an independent charity aligned to Milton Keynes Dons using the brand of the club as one of its tools of engagement to improve the lives and experiences of its local community”. ~ MK DONS SET.

As sports people ourselves, in the world of golf we are always striving to offer fantastic experiences and opportunities for every person to enjoy. So we feel this charity is a great cause and one AFGolfStore are proud to have supported.

Supporting The Trust

Our journey to supporting the Trust started in January when we found out we would officially be moving to Milton Keynes. We were keen to build exposure in the area through supporting the MK Dons and on Tuesday 5th April, we did just that by sponsoring the match ball for the League one tie between the Dons and Crewe. A fantastic opportunity for our new store to meet new faces and build relationships within the community. A well deserved win by the Dons to see their promotion hopes continue was a huge bonus to go along with the evening.

Upon offering to sponsor a game, we were made aware of the MK Dons Golf Day in support of the SET. A fantastic day run by former Dons player, Dean Bowditch, which saw over 20 teams of golfers compete at Three Locks Golf Club. AFGolfStore supported the day with prizes for nearest the pin, longest drive and auction prizes to help raise funds. We also had Chris Hattersley (Marketing Manager & Coach – AFGolfStore) and Elliott Appleby (MK Store Coach & Fitter) offering their services in a beat the pro event on the 9th hole. A charitable donation gave the player the chance to win some prizes by getting closer that their opposing professional.

AFGolfStore are delighted to have raised over £400 in their efforts to support the day, funds we are sure will help the MK Dons SET. On top of this we are happy to now have met a lot of new faces and begun our quest to become a part of the MK community, who have welcomed us so warmly to the area. Thank you.

What’s Next

We will continue to do our part in the future with the aim to raise more funds In any way we can including team fun runs etc. In the meantime however, we will be happy to welcome you to our store, Dons fans or not, and support you with your golf for the coming season, whether it be retail, FREE custom fitting, golf lessons or just some advice!
