Meet The New Titleist TSR Driver

FIND YOUR FASTER

This years tag line from Titleist is ‘find your faster’ as they have worked hard to increase ball speeds with their new driver on the market. Meet TSR.

With new face technology and aerodynamic features, Titleist have found speed without hurting performance.

Titleist TSR Product Range
Pictured: Titleist TSR2, TSR3, TSR4

Evolving from TSi, Titleist have introduced 3 new heads, featuring the TSR2, TSR3 and TSR4.

All looking for faster, longer and straighter ball flights through an improved aero dynamic look and advanced face technology.

TSR 2 and 4 feature variable face thickness , which allows for a thicker centre spot with a thinner perimeter, allowing for increased ball speeds in any location of the face.  While the TSR3 offers ring variable thickness. This is centred more around precision, with better golfers benefitting from centre face strikes.

WHAT DOES R STAND FOR?

At its core, the ‘R’ in TSR stands for refined. A declaration of TSR as the ultimate expression of the Titleist speed project. It could equally stand for the repeatable distance TSR provides with speed that shows up on every swing. Or reputation, for the legacy TSR builds on as the latest in a Titleist driver line that has

Titleist TSR Driver AFGolfStore

been #1 on tour for three years running. However, what matters most is that TSR is the right driver for more players than ever.” ~ Titleist

Each head is slightly different in size and appearance, to showcase a driver for every player.

  • TSR2 has the biggest head with an elongated profile for more speed and forgiveness.
  • TSR3 is built for precision, with the COG position for optimal ball speeds from players who can offer repeatable centred strikes.
  • TSR4 is the lowest spinning driver with a weight track to alter MOI and effect the spin.

In comparison to TSi, there are increased ball speeds through the aerodynamic improvements and better placed COG for optimal speed. Our very own AFGolfStore,  Titleist ambassador, Ollie Fullerton saw the results for himself as they he was fitted at the Titleist national fitting centre.

SHAFT OPTIONS

There are 4 stock shafts on offer with a new custom option too.

  1. HZRSUS RED CB – MID SPIN, HIGH LAUNCH with counter balance (CB) for face stability.
  2. HZRDUS BLACK 4th GEN – LOW SPIN, MID LAUNCH.
  3. TENSEI BLUE XLINK – MID SPIN, MID LAUNCH.
  4. TENSEI 1K BLACK – LOW SPIN, LOW LAUNCH.

There are 4 stock shafts on offer with a new custom option too.

        5. GRAPHITE DESIGN UB (Up & Beyond) – LOW SPIN, MID LAUNCH.

OUR VERDICT

Our fitting at the national fitting centre was a fantastic eye opener to the product and the changes made since TSi.

The three heads all gave impressive results, speed being the obvious improvement.  And with 5 shafts to work with it was great to narrow down to the one that gave each player their optimal performance, i.e. longer, straighter, faster shots.

Every player will find a spec to help their game, as the beauty of modern technology is that each new model now comes with a variety of options, from head shape multiple shaft choices.

It is a must try!

Will Zalatoris Joins The Winners Circle! WITB

It feels like a long time coming, which is crazy to say in such a short career, however since making a great impression at the Masters in April, Will Zalatoris has continued to impress in almost every event he’s played.

After a dramatic end to the FedEx St Jude Championship, Zalatoris can finally call himself a PGA Tour winner!

After 72 holes, tied on -15, Will faced the Austrian, Straka, as they battled it out over 3 extra holes.

After both making errors on the 3rd playoff hole (12th par 3) which meant both players had to approach the green from the drop zone, only Will could get up and down.

Let’s take a look into the equipment which supported him on his journey to PGA Tour title number 1.

What Is The Purpose Of Grind?

As golf continues to evolve, so to does the equipment. With each brand bringing out new models yearly, it begs the question, how much do the clubs change? Well, each year we see upgrades in materials, styles, COG adjustments and so much more.

One area that continues to develop is wedge grinds. An important factor that many amateur golfers overlook when choosing a new wedge, and it could be costing you shots.

WHAT IS WEDGE GRIND

“Wedge grind is the manipulation or removal of material from the sole of the club, helping to improve contact with the turf. Grinds allow for more creativity and consistency around the green, letting you play with ball spin, flight, power, and other factors.” ~ Titleist

The blue shaded area in the adjacent image indicates the grind. It’s important to use the right wedge grinds for your swing type and course conditions, so you can be prepared to hit every kind of wedge shot.

Vokey grind view
Image CC: Titleist

As no single club suits every golfer it’s important that manufacturers are offering grinds and bounce options to suit every style.

The way we interact with the turf varies and with the right club in our hands we can all play a shot to suit our game and skill set.

This is why Vokey offer 6 grind options to support golfers in their quest to finding the right wedge.

Finding the right wedge will depend on you as a golfer, factors include:

  • Turf interaction (divot patterns)
  • Bunker confidence
  • Swing length preference
  • Skill set with opening the face and so on…

Below is Titleist’s spec sheet to indicate the criteria for each of their grinds.

Brooke Henderson WITB: The Amundi Evian Champion 2022

A huge congratulations to Brooke Henderson on her second Major win and first at the Evian Championship.

What looked to be a steady run for the win on Saturday with a 5 shot lead at the midway point soon became a battle with plenty of drama on Sunday.

A nervy start on Sunday included a first hole bogey, soon followed by a four putt double bogey on 6. She soon found herself swamped by names such as Nelly Korda, Charlie Hull and Lydia Ko.

Brooke required nerves of steel and a solid mental game headed into the back 9 to find a way back to the top.

Birdies at 14 and 15 drew her level with Sophia Schubert, before holing a 10 footer on 18 for her first Major win since 2016.

An exciting Sunday, full of drama, showcasing a fantastic standard of golf for the women’s game.

Let’s take a look at the equipment Brooke used to secure the Evian Championship with this weeks, What’s In The Bag!

Scotty Cameron Phantom X Has Evolved

The Scotty Cameron Phantom X has evolved with a new launch of putters this season, but what is different in the latest edition of putters from Titleist.

10 new putters have and will continue to be released between April and June, upgrading previous models as well as introducing new looks with fresh performance benefits, from new head shapes, grip designs as well and graphic upgrades, the fresh look is certainly a putter to be admired.

The models include: 5 | 5.5 | 5s | 7 | 7.5 | 9 | 9.5 | 11 | 11.5 | 12

As we write this blog we have already seen half of the putters join our stores. They look incredible and combined with the classic Scotty Cameron feel we are certain these putters are going to be big performers this season. With the introduction of new models, there is an option for all players. From different neck types, offering a different toe hang option to a variety of head sizes with increased MOI.

WHAT DOES SCOTTY CAMERON SAY?

“Each time I develop a line of putters, the new models go into the hands of the best players in the world. From Tour players, we get critical insight into what works for them – what they are looking for – both overall and specifically. From the type of neck configurations to topline thickness, to the sound and feel from the various types of materials and metal we use, professionals know what they want. And I’ve always taken my design cues from what the best in the world demand. With these new Phantom X mallets, I have the benefit of the past few years of input from players and a line that’s already established on Tour. The 2022 Phantom X mallets feature the ‘greatest hits’ of what we’ve developed – the solid stainless-steel faces, the new necks, the new shapes – rolled out in high-end, premium precision milled mallets designed to inspire us all to play better. I believe there’s a putter in this line that will appeal to just about every mallet player.”

2022 PHANTOM X TECHNOLOGY

Each new 2022 Phantom X putter is an integration of steel and aluminium, with nine of the 10 models engineered specifically with a solid, precision-milled 303 stainless steel face and body that’s expertly fused with a 6061 aircraft grade aluminium sole and flange component. The new Phantom X 12 employs an aluminium face/sole with stainless steel wings for maximum MOI, while its slimmed down flange section and extended alignment create a longer-looking, easier-to-aim update to the prior model.

SOLID STAINLESS STEEL FACE/BODY CONSTRUCTION

Precision milled in the United States from a block of solid 303 stainless steel, the new Phantom X 5, 5.5, 5s, 7, 7.5, 9, 9.5, 11 and 11.5 models were designed with a solid stainless steel face that is carried through to the body/wings and integrated with an aluminium sole/flange component for performance and playability with consistent sound and soft feel.

PRECISION MILLED, TOUR-INSPIRED SHAPES

Designed with feedback from touring professionals – and validated with multiple victories around the world in 2021 – the new 2022 Phantom X mallets further express player preferences with features like precision milled solid stainless steel faces, sleek putter head profiles, refined alignment cues, high durability finishes, and specific shaft and neck configurations.

SHAFT/NECK CONFIGURATIONS

The refreshed Phantom X 11.5 will continue to feature a low-bend stepless steel shaft installed over a milled topline spud, while the updated Phantom X 7.5 and all-new Phantom X 9.5 will employ small slant/jet necks like the recently revamped Phantom X 5.5. The Phantom X 5, 7, 9, 11 and 12 models each have a stepless steel shaft engineered to minimise face rotation with a single mid-bend aimed directly down the target line. The summer-release Phantom X 5s has a straight step-less steel shaft installed near the centre point of the top-line with zero offset.

5 Ways We Can Improve Your Game This May

The season is well underway, the sun is coming out on a daily basis and golf courses are beginning to look their best for the summer ahead. But why are you not playing your best golf? Here is 5 ways we can improve your golf this May, ready for the summer.

Golf Lessons

Yes, it’s obvious, golf lessons will help you play better golf, but that’s not all. Our coaching team are passionate about helping you make the necessary changes to your game to help you maximise your potential. It’s not just about the 30 or 60 minutes you spend with the coach. They will invest time into ensuring you leave happy and commit to being available by text, email or for a general chat to help you continue to stay on the right track following a lesson. We have packages available and the team are on hand daily to talk to you about your needs and goals. Other than just helping you hit the ball better our coaches will:

  • Offer ongoing support
  • Help your mental approach to the game
  • Give you clear direction with practice plans
  • Share drills and exercises to ensure post lesson practice is helping
  • Create a clear blueprint to improvement

First timers can enjoy lesson one at 50% OFF, whilst returning customers can enjoy £10 OFF one lesson in May. Learn more about our team here.

Club Fitting

Are you 100% sure your clubs are right for you? Straight off the rack golf clubs are great, but not for everyone! Every golfer is different, from size to technique and ability meaning every golfer will need clubs specific to their needs (which, for some may just be off the rack!) from the club type, flexibility, loft and lie and so on.

Our fitting service is completely FREE because we want to ensure all our customers find out what is right for them. The right equipment will have a huge impact on the way you play the game and therefore is one of our 5 fixes this May. Book in your local AFGolfStore and enjoy a FREE fit to see what works best for you.

Loft & Lie

Did you know, when practicing on hard surfaces including mats, in time your loft and lie angles will begin to alter. It’s not uncommon to hear golfers say comments such as “my 7iron goes the same distance as my 8iron”, and low and behold we discover the loft and lie angles have adjusted causing gapping issues as well as strike and direction issues. We offer a loft and lie service that will allow you to hit shots whilst we check all of your clubs, making corrections where necessary to ensure your clubs are offering the gapping distances you were promised on purchase. Discover more here

Gapping

This is something we encourage all golfers to be doing at least twice a year. A gapping allows us identify how far the ball goes with each club ensuring the gaps between clubs become consistent. By knowing how far you actually hit a golf ball with each club will allow you to hit more greens and save shots! remove the guess work. We encourage an early season gapping for the warmer conditions and again later in the year if you enjoy winter (colder) golf. Gapping sessions are available over all 3 stores, 7 days a week. Learn more here

Talk To Us

We love to talk golf! We are here to help our customers improve, not just serve and say goodbye. Pop in and see us and ask us questions. Ensuring you get the best out of your game is our passion, from talking technique to discovering the perfect length tee peg, we leave no stone unturned. You can find us here

So if you are keen to improve this May, there are 5 key options to help you get the summer golfing season off to the best start!

Should A Beginner Golfer Get Custom Fit Clubs?

A sport with so many variables and so many skills to learn, golf is a challenge for anyone looking to get into the sport. However, can we make the game easier with the right equipment? Should a beginner golfer get custom fit for clubs?

One thing we all recommend for a beginner when getting into golf is golf lessons to ensure the right technique is being taught and that the golfer has a clear understanding of how to make improvements. Usually when starting, it is common for a golfer to borrow equipment, get second hand clubs or buy a start set. After all, golf equipment isn’t the cheapest and is certainly looked at as an investment for a period of time. However, no two people are the same, from different heights, sizes and natural strength and therefore clubs are best performing when tailored to the individuals needs.

If you are a beginner golfer, above average height and having lessons with standard golf clubs you will typically find that making improvements to your game is difficult as you are having to adapt around the wrong equipment. Strike location will be effected and therefore the distance and direction of your shot will be inconsistent and no where near what you desire.

A recommendation would be to have lessons with a coach who has access to a fitting kit, so you can learn with an iron that is suited to your static measurements. Learning will become so much easier. From here if you know you are invested in the sport and are going to pursue we would recommend a FREE club fitting session to get you in the right equipment. This will make long term improvements easier and allow your practice to be effective knowing you have the right equipment to help you improve the game.

At AFGolfStore we have a wide selection of brands, models, shafts and grips to help a beginner get the right setup to help them on their journey. Clubs offering more forgiveness, lighter shafts and so on. Our expert fitting team located in Cambridge, Peterborough or Milton Keynes will leave no stone unturned in finding the clubs you need.

Meet The 2022 Toulon Range From Odyssey Golf

Odyssey, the number one putter in golf, in 2016 released the Toulon range, which has since become their premium putter. The 2022 model is now out and available in AFGolfStore for FREE fittings and WOW, it is a great looking putter.

“Toulon Design putters are developed with an obsessive attention to detail, exacting precision, and Tour-proven performance. They’re meticulously crafted to be the best milled putters in the world.” ~ Odyssey Golf

Toulon Models

Toulon comes with the following options:

  • Daytona Beach
  • Le Mans
  • Chicago
  • Madison
  • Las Vegas DB
  • Las Vegas H4.5
  • San Diego
  • Atlanta
  • Memphis

Each putter offering a different style, shape and weight type to suit the customers stroke and preference.

“I LOVED THE DAYTONA BEACH DESIGN FROM THE MOMENT I SAW IT. AND WHEN I HIT THE FIRST PUTT IT WENT STRAIGHT INTO THE BAG. THE FEEL IS SO PURE. THE REST, AS THEY SAY, IS HISTORY.” ~ Danny Willett

Toulon Range Putter Features

So, what makes the Toulon range, Odyssey’s most premium putter? Well, let’s start with the face, they use Deep Diamond Groove Mill Pattern. This is deep full face grooves, which are designed to control sound and feel by channeling vibration. The face also features a medium depth double fly cut to enhance forward roll and feel. With this precise attention to detail,  this is the most consistent and best-rolling Toulon Design ever.

The Midnight Black Finish is stunning! Toulon Design is widely recognised for its premium look and construction and the black finish helps the putter stand out on tour!

Every Toulon Design putter comes with an Adjustable Weighting System in the form of the new two split-weight design that moves the weights forward, and toward the toe and heel. The positioning improves the inertia of the head, while also improving the consistency of impact ratio and forward roll. All of this leads to speed consistency and a high level of performance.

Innovative multi-material shaft saves 40 grams of weight, which is redistributed to the head and grip end of the putter. Stroke Lab Weighting completely rebalances the putter for improved tempo and consistency in the stroke, and this major-winning technology continues to dominate on Tours around the world.

Our Verdict

There is no denying this is a special bit of kit! A solid feel off the face with weight that will help the most inconsistent players when it comes to distance control and speed around the greens.
