The new UDI & DHY utility irons from TaylorMade Stealth land in store and online from July 14th just in time for the 150th Open from St. Andrews, where no doubt we are going to see many low chasing iron shots throughout a windy week. Enter the UDI standing for ultimate driving iron, which will offer the penetrating tee shots perfect for such conditions.
In our latest blog, we are going to have a look at the exciting new clubs.
Before we look at the differences, there are many similarities in technology in the evolved models from the SIM series.
First of all, the forgiveness has increased with the SpeedFoam AIR™
which is 69% lighter than the original SpeedFoam™. This material is injected inside the hollow body construction. This delivers even more distance performance and forgiveness, providing enhanced feeling and sound like no other utility-style club.
The Thru-Slot Speed Pocket technology changes the way irons perform, dramatically in terms of distance, trajectory and control, while promoting additional golf ball speed on miss-hits low on the face with unprecedented prowess.
Broken down, we can expect a bigger sweet spot for increased forgiveness with preserved ball speed for off-centre strikes!
So, what are the differences? Well the obvious is the style and look. The UDI will suit golfers looking for a players club. Where most driving irons look and sound different to the irons in the bag, the Stealth UDI falls in line nicely with irons such as the P790, with a square top line and leading edge to make it easy to aim and blend into any set.
This club will offer lower ball flights to offer ‘under the wind shots’ with additional roll. Perfect for those ‘Open’ style conditions.
The DHY (Driving Hybrid) however, is a bigger head, promoting a typical hybrid feel with the characteristics of an iron. With the bigger head comes a shift in COG. Push slightly back and lower allows for a higher launch, but with lower spin you can still expect the ball to bound on up the fairway!
Overall, two fantastic utility clubs offering great forgiveness, distance and feel with a slick look.
