AFGolfStore Are Proud To Support East Anglia Air Ambulance

AFGolfStore are delighted to announce East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) as our Charity of the Year.

AFGOLFSTORE SUPPORT EAST ANGLIA AIR AMBULANCE

EAAA is a life-saving service that delivers highly-skilled doctors and critical care paramedics by air or car to seriously ill or injured people in East Anglia, providing treatments normally only seen in hospitals. These treatments, such as providing blood transfusions at scene, can mean the difference between life and death and ensure the patient has the best chance of getting to hospital.

Operating from their bases in Cambridge and Norwich, their two helicopters are there for the people that need them in East Anglia. At times when it is impractical to fly, they will attend in rapid response vehicles (RRV) which carry the same equipment as the helicopters.

They are the first air ambulance service in the East of England to provide a 24/7 service by both air and road and like many charities, rely on the generosity of those in their community to keep being there for those in need.

We will be donating 20p for the sale of every golf lesson sold at our Cambridge and Peterborough stores, expected to raise at least £500 over the next year. These stores will also be hosting collection boxes at the tills so visitors can make cash donations.

Chris Hattersley, a spokesperson for AFGolfStore said: “We are very proud to support The East Anglia Air Ambulance and help raise money through serving the golfers of East Anglia in our Peterborough and Cambridge stores. As we help golfers improve, they as well as our coaches can feel comforted in knowing that by improving, they are also helping to support the charity that means so much to the East Anglian community.”

Tammy Swiderski, Community Fundraiser for East Anglian Air Ambulance, said: “We’re so grateful that AF Golf Store has selected us to be their Charity of the Year. East Anglian Air Ambulance relies almost entirely on public donations and support, and the organisation is facing a very challenging year ahead with the cost-of-living crisis. This new partnership will support our crews in delivering 24/7 life-saving care by air and road in the region.”

Our Doors Are Open, AFGolfStore Has Arrived In Milton Keynes

AFGolfStore Milton Keynes FREE club fitting

Our doors are open, AFGolfStore has arrived in Milton Keynes.

A 4500sqf store that we believe offers every golfer something to help their game, whether it be a new style to look good on the course or a golf swing to match. Our team are ready to help you take your game to the next level.

This blog is an insight into our new venue, from where we are located and how we can help the golfers of Milton Keynes and beyond improve their golf.

Located in Bletchley, we are 200 yards across from Stadium MK in the Granby industrial park. Our indoor unit gives us the space to layout a spacious swing room, home to our Trackman system, which is used in every custom fitting and coaching session alongside our resident PGA Professional team.

Trackman is a tour preferred radar giving immediate feedback with ball and strike characteristics, making it very easy for us to identify your specifications, strengths and weaknesses allowing us to make swing changes or select the perfect new clubs for you.

Across from the swing room, you can find our putting green, with the same purpose, to improve your putting in a lesson or to identify the right putter in a fitting session with the use of SAM Putt Lab (the putting equivalent of Trackman).

Our fitting sessions are completely FREE as we believe all customers need to know their specifications to avoid getting the wrong clubs, which sadly happens all to often. Your expert fitter will work towards your needs, whether it be just a driver or the whole bag, stress testing a range of models to ensure we see performance gains with consistency. We have an unbiased approach to fitting so we can open your mind up to a range of models that give you the best results, not just your favourite brand!

We fit with and stock the leading brands in golf equipment including:

With all the latest models available for you to try. If you find clubs that work for you, depending on the brand and model, there may be the opportunity to skip the wait on your clubs being ordered and delivered, and instead guarantee them faster and built by us in our AFGolf Build Centre, located in our Peterborough store.

However, if new clubs isn’t your reason for visiting us, you will be excited to see our huge retail area offering your favourite brands in apparel, shoes, hardware and accessories.

We even have the largest ladies golf clothing area in Milton Keynes. We stock the following: (L = also available in ladies)

Improve Your Impact Position

Improve your impact position with the help of AFGolfStore lead groups coach, Bruce Whitehead.

The Importance Of Impact

Bruce quotes PGA Tour Professional, Jim Furyk when explaining the importance of the impact position; “A good impact position makes up for any amount of supposed swing errors on the backswing and downswing” – Jim Furyk

Every golfer we teach is different in size, strength, ability and so on. So naturally the way we swing a golf club will differ, however if you look at the best players in the world, although their swings all look very different, their impact positions all share common similarities, hence why they all share similar outcomes and results.

This week when coaching our learner ladies group class at Kingsway Golf Centre in Cambridge, we focused on how to improve impact, which led to this tip. A common fault at impact, particularly in new golfers, is to help the ball in the air by scooping the ball upwards. At impact this will be evident with the hands closer to the back leg (right leg in a right hander) whilst the club head is already past the lead leg.

In this image you can see how the players hands are ahead of the club head through impact, creating a powerful strike position. This was achieved in 3 steps and thus here is your tip.

Tip Of The Week: Improve Your Impact

  1. Without taking a backswing and using a bag (golf smash bag) as seen on the left side, press the club head into the bag and push the hands to the left. This is a feel drill and will help you understand where you want to feel at impact.
  2. Now repeat step one, only this time we will be taking a swing and hitting the bag. The acceleration will press the hands forward at impact.
  3. Now lose the bag and try with the ball! Remember to focus on the feeling of hands ahead at impact!

For more help and support, we run a weekly ladies and beginners group class, with multiple options. The first lesson is FREE so you can gain some support from Bruce and see how you get on before committing. You can check out more information here:

Improve Your Fairway Wood Strikes With Jason Boast

The first question I ask is, where should we strike the ground? When hitting a ball off the ground we have to make contact at some point with the ground, as to use the loft on the club to send the ball up in the air. A common fault I see in a lot of my clients is that they have the ball position too far forward in the swing with the fairway wood. As it is like a driver clients are inclined to try and sweep the ball from the ground, however, by placing it to far forward they tend to hit the ground first resulting in poor strikes.

By placing the ball position more central in the stance it is easier to hit the ground level with the ball which allows for more effective use of the loft.  With the way the wood is designed it has a very flat, yet wide bottom, this allows the club not to dig into the ground, but rather just bounce through.

If you watch the best in the world hit their fairway woods watch how a little divot always appears. So try placing your ball position more central as it’s easier to hit the ground level with the ball, rather than too far forward trying to sweep the ball in the air and resulting in thins and tops!. Watch how you will increase height of the shots as well as improving the strike, helping to lower those scores.

Ball position too far forward!

Jason is one of our senior academy coaches at our Peterborough Store, offering a fantastic coaching service in the fully equipped Trackman4 studio and indoor science and motion putting green. His coaching style will leave you very confident about your game! Book a lesson with Jason here

Have You Checked Your Start Line

There are 3 key skills in putting:

  • Start line
  • Distance control
  • Green reading

Practicing each skill will have a great impact on the most important part of the game. Remember, putting accounts for approximately 40-45% of golf. So nearly half of your game is played on the putting green. Why wouldn’t you practice this.

This weeks tip is related to the first of those 3 skills.

Start by placing two objects, such as two sleeves of golf balls either side of your putter head, as seen in the picture.

Now place a marker around a putter length away from the boxes, so you are ready to putt between the boxes (like a tunnel).

Once you begin putting you will gain instant feedback as to what your tendency is.

For example, as a right handed golfer, if you keep hitting the right box, your club face is open or your swing path could be playing a part by swing out.

Equally if you hit the left box your club face could be closed and or the path again is moving across the ball.

If this is the case, take your club back to the boxes as seen in the above picture and swing between the boxes so you can pay attention to the face and path.

Once you feel like you’re gaining good control of the start line and the ball is rolling between the two boxes, increase the difficulty and improve the skill set by moving the boxes closer together.

You can even move further away. The harder you make your practice the easier your next round will feel.

Just ensure you always practice with a purpose, use training aids and pay attention to the results. If you need help from here, Jason is on hand at our Peterborough Store to help further.

Putting is a huge part of AFGolfStore and something we pride ourselves on. We have free fittings available with the leading putter brands in the game from:

  • SIK Putters
  • Scotty Cameron
  • Taylormade
  • Odyssey
  • Ping

Jason Boast is also on hand 5 days a week to improve your game, including putting lessons on our state of the art indoor putting green, equipped with SAM Putt Lab technology and video analysis.

Try the drill and let us know how you get on!
